1) I watched several videos and read articles on the Netsmartz, PBS, and I-Safe web-sites. It was very eye-opening to hear personal experiences of teens who had got into trouble on the internet.
2)I don't plan to assign my future students very many internet assignments, but if I do, I would assign them to be done with a parent. Most trouble that kids get into is because they are all alone and feel like no one is watching. The scary thing about the internet is that once it's on there, everyone can see it and it's really hard to remove. I hope I can help students be aware of the potential dangers on the internet and that they are real. I would like to encourage students to only get on the internet when they have a specific purpose and when they are around others.

I'm not sure how practical it is to make students do internet assignments with a parent. I think that the important thing is to teach them what is right and wrong and help them to want to make right choices. You can help protect them by not giving them internet assignments on topics that will likely pull up a lot of questionable sites.
