Idea for content specific technology integration project

This assignment will cover the Core Standard 20.00113-01. By identifying and using different sewing equiptment and recording a video the students will be able to access other videos and learn techniques from other students.
Ashley and I are going to assign our students specific things to do on a sewing machine. They will be required to perform these tasks and record a video of the task they are assigned. The assignments will be to 1) Identify dewing machine parts and functions, 2) Wind and place a bobbin, 3) Thread a sewing machine, 4) Clean, oil, and care of the machine, 5) Use a seam ripper and backstich a machine. For our project, Ashley and I are going to demonstrate and record how to wind and place a bobbin and how to thread a basic sewing machine.
We will turn in our video of the techniques that we demonstrate.

TPK vs. TPACK

TPK and TPACK are ways for using technology in the classroom. TPACK is used for more specific areas and topics where technology enhances the topic being taught. In my future classroom I hope to use TPACK to get my students more involved in the lessons. I might assign my students to submit their work in a Google Document or have them send an asynchronous video to me explaining what they learned while doing their homeowork. TPK is less interactive and might be a power-point or a computer presentation given as the lesson. Both I can see will be very helpful as a teacher and hopefully interesting for the students. It seems like kids know a lot about technology these days so it is useful to get them involved in ways that they enjoy.

Preference

I preferred to use the asynchronous video communication. I felt like this is a good way to send messages to a large group of people without talking individually on Skype or Google Video. It was fun to see the person that I was talking to with the synchronous chat, but I feel that for a teacher the asynchronous video would be more effective. I could record videos of instruction for my students or share a fun "live" message with all of them. With asynchronous video the people I am communicating with do not have to be at their computer. They can view the video when the time is convenient for them. These new tools were fun to learn about and I feel like they will both benefit me as a teacher.
